Kung Fu as we know it in the U.S. is Martial Arts. Though in China and Hong Kong, Kung Fu has a deeper meaning, while Wushu is one of the correct terms for Martial Arts.
Kung Fu can loosely be translated as skill earned through hard work. It can also be skill developed through suffering. To have Kung Fu, it takes countless repetitions, hours of concentrated effort, proper practice of fundamental motions, all in an effort to perfect one’s craft.
It need not always be martial arts, as the master cook who makes delicious meals may have Kung Fu. The calligrapher who paints flawlessly or without effort has Kung Fu. The dancer who doesn’t need to think but is one with the music and movement has Kung Fu. Of course in Martial Arts, one who is has practiced their skill enough that it has become second nature can be said to have Kung Fu.
In retrospect, where have you gained enough skill to have Kung Fu in?
