Freedom Through Blogging

I’ve been thinking a lot about freedom the past few days. More about what it means to me. Such as, what would ultimate freedom be like? Freedom from financial woes. Freedom from other peoples judgements. Freedom from my own judgements.

Is it possible to get to that level of complete and total freedom through a blog?

I’m brought back to look at Hugh Macleod’s book, “Freedom is Blogging in your Underwear”. It’s a great read if the title peaks your interest, my wife found it for me one time while we were browsing a used book store near home.

His books are short, concise, to the point, and funny as hell. Their messages ring true for me, possibly because I’m not one who likes rules that people impose on other people. They celebrate being oneself in expression while taking over the world in one’s own way.

Most news bores me unless it’s about anime, video games, martial arts, music, or good people who do dope shit. All the news about politics, while important for some, doesn’t do much for mental well being. Who cares what the president said about such and such anymore? People who have other more pressing problems that they want to ignore maybe.

Fuck it used to be one of my mantras. Sometimes I wonder if that was actually a great space to be in as a creative. It allows for making mistakes without judging oneself too much.

Also, one of the things I think about when making this blog about art, is copyright issues. I don’t really want someone to steal my shit and post it as their own, but I also want to make fan art and post it without being scared of legal repercussions. But I do love to make art. Does it even matter anymore whether I post the full piece online or not? Does watermarking do anything without messing up the viewing experience of the piece in question?

I’m also a multi-dimensional artist, meaning I also like to move, dance, train, make music, etc. Not just sketch and draw, learn to paint, etc. But general messaging says you can only be the best if you singularily focus one mutherfucking thing. “Another bullshit rule” is what I’m thinking. Especially after reading “Code of the Extraordinary Mind”, I get to wondering what bullshit rules have people accepted. Even, what have I accepted to be rules that might be hindering my overall progress.

Some have made great dents in space and time while being amazing at just one thing. A part of me has envied those people who know exactly the one thing that they wanted to do for the rest of their lives from day one. Still, not hers have made staggering careers and businesses by being masters of more than a few things and still dabbling in other things.

One doesn’t need to be a one trick pony to succeed in life apparently. Specialization is regarded highly in society now a days. But so were some polymaths who made a significant dent in history.
