Although as humans, we are already infinite beings living in different dimensions. Our experience in this three dimensional world is limited to what we are able to perceive through our multiple senses (including 6th and beyond). On top of that, we have a physical body to care for, mental skills to account for, and different types of experiences that can be had.
To me, being infinite means reaching infinitely outward and infinitely inward. To expand in all directions, becoming the maximum that one can be. I believe that one can be a “jack of all trades, master of some” as Emilie Wapnik describes it. What if I can master myself, and in doing so, master everything that I am capable of doing.
That would take a ridiculous amount of time, so most sane humans decide that they can only focus on one thing to be good at, or a master at, and that’s it. Never mind that we all have multiple aspects and roles in our lives. Some just think it’s possible to be a master of only one craft.
I beg to differ, as there have been great people who do one vocation for the money, and happen to be a master level at one or two other “hobbies”. Just because someone decided not to make one of their hobbies a career, doesn’t mean that they haven’t possibly mastered it.
But to master ALL things? Is that even possible? If we are infinite beings, I’m assuming yes. Since our experience is slightly finite in some ways, I believe what we end up mastering will be dependent on our interests. I haven’t reached that level myself, and have a long way to go, but this is my theory.
Is it practical? I guess it depends on what’s practical to you.
In today’s society, money is an issue. 90% of us need it to live, and the government wants to take a cut of your earnings, if not a cut off your property if you don’t have any earnings. If you live off the grid, in a completely self-sustaining home, you might still have some use for the internet, or may want to go to social gatherings once in a blue moon.
We also need to be healthy, and to maintain that health. Which means we need to eat, move, and be in tune with the inner and outer world.
Some people need to have a doctor to check up on them once in a while. I’m not fond of the medical industry as a whole, but I like to have the option of turning to them if necessary, though I would still go more for holistic, homeopathic, osteopathic, and other means than conventional western medicine, especially since it seems like most man-made pharmaceuticals only cover the symptoms and not solve the root problems. Though I think energy healing is a great modality and method that works for me, not everyone thinks it’s possible, so what they believe is what they experience.
So back to the question, can we be infinite through mastery of self, and in doing so, master all the things that we do? Given enough time, yes. Plus, if we shorten the amount of time it takes to learn foundational skills, through proper training, preparation, and practice, and diving deep enough I think we can.
According to Tim Ferris, in terms of languages, he has been able to dissect the most basic phrases that he needs to translate, in order to make it easier to learn the languages he chooses. If a skill can be broken down, it can be mastered at least to fluency.
I guess I have to define what I mean by mastering something. I believe it’s to have kung fu in something. Kung Fu is supreme skill acquired through hard work and patience. This is a rough estimate of the translation, since it can be used in multiple contexts. It requires a lot of time, but I believe that every new skill we gain also increases our capacity to learn.
If you can master how you learn, what lifestyle suits you best, what skills and experiences interest you, and be able to apply yourself to the tasks, as well as allowing for mistakes and “failures”, then I think the world is at the palm of your hands.
If you master your mind, body, and spirit, and have empathy to understand what drives other humans, then anything can be learned, the body can be built, and you’ll still have a social life. Neat huh?
The ability to begin anything helps to also master something, because every day, in order to get better, you have to begin again, and again, and again.
Until all those stacks of experience pile up, and you have fluency. And as the fluency improves, then the ability to simplify complex things becomes easier. Once you are able to break down complex things into simple things, and be able to teach them to complete beginners, then I believe you have reached a certain level of mastery.
By mastering yourself, you become more infinite. Mastery of self is never ending, because there is always more that can be improved in our lives.
I do think, however, that there comes a point where you will be able to find flow with any activity, which will be another sign of mastery.
I think the more you flow, the more infinite you also become.
By staying in touch with infinity, you can be one with it. Eventually becoming the physical representation of infinity.
Flow and Mastery are two possible elements in becoming more infinite.
