There’s More than One Way to Meditate

Most people think that meditation is only sitting down, trying not to move, and clearing your thoughts. I believe there’s more than one way to meditate, and each person tends to find a style that works for them.

One of my favorite meditations is through dance. There’s a point with the right music (especially when practicing House Dance) where I can feel my vibrational frequency getting higher. It’s one way to work a sweat and feel good at the same time.

In Kung Fu, my Sifu stated that the Daoists use slow movements to meditate because it’s easier to clear the mind that way than the Buddhist/Shaolin method of sitting still. Thus Qi Gong cultivates Qi by allowing circulation of blood and doesn’t make the blood stagnate or rush to the brain.

I do enjoy a good sitting mediation as well though as it’s a good training exercise to quiet the brain, as it has a tendency to force thoughts faster than with movement. Frank Kinslow’s method of quieting the brain by becoming more aware of the space between the thoughts has been helpful for me in that regard.

Wim Hof’s breathing method also works wonders, and helps to push the body’s physical response to stress while manually activating our auto-immune system.

I also remember Vishen Lakhiani stating in a YouTube video, that his favorite meditation is Tex Mex.

It’s up to you to find out what works for you. Just know that you have a lot of options. So go ahead and do some research, and you’ll find a myriad of ways to get there. I

s there a particular method that you prefer?
