Writing to Get Past the Blank Page

Sometimes thinking before writing doesn’t work. Like right now. So I’m writing to get past the blank page, so my ideas can flow or crash. Whether it’s good or bad doesn’t matter right now. All that matters is that something is written down so the muscle gets some reps in.

It’s okay to start with nothing to say, I believe. But if this is a part of the habits I want to adopt, something is better than nothing. Doesn’t mean it’s always going to be this way, preferably it won’t happen again. But it happens, and that’s okay. This site is being built back up after a long hiatus over the years. A certain chain of world events has meant that creating is the best form of expression for me.

And like drawing, creating can mean putting into practice several sketches, until the eventual masterpiece comes along and surprises even the self.

So there, this is something. Better than nothing. But it’s a step forward. Even if I step back it just becomes a dance. Better to flow and find rhythm than feel stagnant.

So if you ever feel stuck, start with a sketch, play or hum a single note, do something related to the task at hand. Now is all that matters anyway. It’s a reminder to self, and hope it helps you too.

Remember, be infinity.
